I liked this books because it finally brings to light the struggles of a black superhero, and it shows how it affects his life. All around an amazing book!
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and biting my fingernails, that is how good it was. It is a heist between six teenagers and all of them are amazing characters that will keep you intrigued.

Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
Posted by Shannon Britten on 3/8/2021Concrete Rose is a prequel to "The Hate U Give" and follows Starr's father Maverick as he grapples with what it means to be a man and to be a father, especially as a black teenager. Full of lots of appearences by beloved characters, this book delves deeper into Maverick's back story and the world of Garden Heights. I loved the character interactions and the real world snappy comebacks- this book made me both laugh and cry as it followed the ups and downs in Maverick's earlier life.
Available as a physical book at the PHS library and the public library, and as an ebook or an eaudiobook from Overdrive/Libby.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
Posted by Shannon Britten on 2/8/2021"Yadriel, a trans boy, summons the angry spirit of his high school's bad boy, and agrees to help him learn how he died, thereby proving himself a brujo, not a bruja, to his conservative family." - from Sonoma County Library
I've been listening to this as an audio book during my commute to PHS, and not only do I love the story of Yadriel trying to prove his brujo magic, but I love the way the narrator brings each character's personality to life, from determined Yadriel, to his spunky cousin Maritza, to bad boy (and newly dead) Julian, to Yadriel's entire family.
You can check out a physical copy from the public library, or download the eBook or eAudiobook on Libby/Overdrive
