Community Service
All Valley Oaks students are required to complete 5 hours of community service each semester. We believe in the substantial research showing that students can greatly benefit from doing meaningful service work. These benefits include the development of emotional intelligence, happiness and mental health, relationship building, self-confidence, civic understanding, and self-identity. Students need to sign an Agreement Contract each year and fill out a Verification Form for their 5 hours each semester.
We also offer an elective course for students who do 2 or more hours of service each week all semester for a non-profit organization. Students may earn up to 10 elective credits every semester (150hrs) in The Community Service Course. Students need to contact Ms. Parker if interested in enrolling in this course.
note: Using the link below for CVNL - the local volunteer matching portal - teens can search for volunteer opportunities suited to their interests and can also track their community service hours. The portal also provides a specific link where students can be directed to volunteer opportunities appropriate for their specific age range. Parents interested in serving with the students can also find opportunities to serve as a family. CVNL also provides opportunity updates based upon interest and/or search criteria.
